Performance Art

searching for familiarity, 13 years later

This is a performance where I dress in my drag character Skim and return to places from my childhood in Burnaby. The outfit that I wear in this performance was created during my residency at ArtStarts with over 100 used plastic bags. Conscious of how "fast fashion" affects society and the environment, I work within an upcycle and DIY approach to create the garments and accessories Skim wears. Skim identifies as genderfluid, both a drag queen and drag king embodying high femininity through costuming and typical masculinity through facial hair. I bring Skim to perform and reflect on environment, memory, and place. 2020

Pankattan Folktale

This work was a collaboration with Da Hyung Jung in order to share the Pankattan Folktale created by Hyemin Park in a performance.  This work was shown at Space 55 in Seoul, South Korea as part of the Ordinary Nations show by Hyemin Park. The folktale was created by workshop participants in Hyemin Park's project in order to create a perfect Nation. The country they created was named Pankattan. 2019.

Coming out, party of one, 10 years late

This is a performance art piece where I dress in my drag character Skim and walk through memorable places from my youth in Armstrong. The walk took a total of 1 hour and 10 minutes. Armstrong is a small city of 5000 where I grew up in and where my family was the only Koreans living there. I created a paper gown and a fake beard for this performance. This work was created during my residency at the Caetani centre. 2019.
